Covid Cases in India Live Updates: India has recorded 761 fresh cases of Covid-19, while the number of active cases has declined to 4,334, Union health ministry data showed on Friday. Twelve fatalities were also reported, according to the ministry’s data. The number of daily cases had dropped to double-digits till December 5, but has now gone up after the emergence of a new variant and the prevailing cold weather conditions.
India on Thursday reported 760 new Covid-19 cases as per the health ministry’s data. The total active caseload of the viral disease was logged at 4,423, a decrease of 17 since Wednesday morning. With this, the total count of coronavirus cases in India since its outbreak in January 2020 has reached 4,50,15,896.
Yesterday, two patients in Kerala and Karnataka lost their lives due to Covid. Since 2020, as many as 5,33,373 people have died due to coronavirus infection as per government data.
619 cases of Covid sub-variant JN.1 have been reported from 12 states till January 4. Official sources told PTI that the majority of infected individuals are opting for home-based treatment — indicating mild illness.
199 cases have been reported from Karnataka, 148 from Kerala, 110 from Maharashtra, 47 from Goa, 36 from Gujarat, 30 from Andhra Pradesh, 26 from Tamil Nadu, 15 from Delhi, 4 from Rajasthan 2 from Telangana and one each from Odisha and Haryana.
Covid Case In India: Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in India, Odisha has identified two new cases of the JN.1 sub-variant of the virus, as confirmed by a senior official on Thursday.

1. As reported by ANI, the cases of the JN.1 sub-variant were identified in Sundargarh and Bhubaneswar in Odisha. Notably, one of the patients has fully recovered, while the other is currently undergoing treatment. Samples that tested positive for COVID-19 are now being sent for genome sequencing.
2. Director of Health Services Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, said, “We are sending all the positives for genome sequencing. Two cases of JN.1 have come up in genome sequencing, while the total number of cases is 28. We will test the asymptomatic as per the ICMR guidelines and if they are found positive, they will be sent for genome sequencing.”
